HOW TO MAKE HALF MOON DIY LEATHER EARRINGS
Do you make earrings with your Cricut Maker? Honestly, it is one of my favorite things to do with my machine. Cricut Makers are so versatile! I love that you can make so many different things with ONE machine.
I’ve been dreaming of this half-moon leather earring for some time. In this post, I used acetate half-moons to complement the leather half-moons I make with my Cricut Maker.
Feel free to experiment with this one! If you don’t want to purchase acetate half-moons, you could use 2 leather half-moons! The possibilities are endless!
Let’s get to making!

How to Make Half-Moon Leather Earrings with a Cricut
Step 1 - Purchase Half-Moon Acetate pieces.
For this tutorial, I used acetate half-moon on top and leather half-moon on the bottom.
I love buying acetate pieces from THIS Etsy shop. The colors I bought are a black tortoise, goldenrod yellow, blonde tortoise, and pearl white.
TIP: You’ll notice I purchased some with holes on BOTH sides and hole on ONE side. If you want to make earrings with posts be sure to buy half-moons with holes on ONE side.
If you’d prefer earrings with fish hooks, be sure to buy half-moons with holes on BOTH sides of the half-moon.

STEP 2 DOWNLOAD HALF MOON FILE FROM MY RESOURCE LIBARY
Download my half-moon cut file from my resource library. You can get access to my resource library at the bottom of this post.
STEP 3 UPLOAD CUT FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
Upload the half-moon cut file into Cricut Design Space. If you have never uploaded a file into Cricut Design Space, you can check out my tutorial here.
You can upload the half-moon file for FREE and then cut. It is really easy to do once you get the hang of it. Feel free to reach out to me or comment below if you have any questions or problems!
Once your file is uploaded your screen should look like this.
For this earring I used the following size:
1.5” Wide x 0.771” Height
STEP 3 CUT YOUR LEATHER
Place your Cricut Genuine Leather face down on a Strong Grip mat. Use a brayer to ensure the leather has adhered to your mat.
Cricut will prompt you to select the leather you are using. In this tutorial, we used Cricut Genuine Leather.
Be sure to load the deep cut blade in your machine.
Cut your leather.
STEP 4 PUNCH A HOLE IN YOUR LEATHER HALF MOON
With your leather earring punch, make a hole in the middle of one earring. An easy trick to make sure your punch is in the middle is to fold your earring in half and punch in the middle. Or you could wing it! It is up to you.
I find a leather punch gives you more control. My punch has several different sizes of holes. I always set my dial on the smallest hole when making leather earrings
You will notice, I punched one hole in the middle of the straight side of the half-moon.
Repeat on the other earring.
STEP 5 ATTACH YOUR ACETATE HALF-MOON TO YOUR LEATHER HALF MOON
First things first, you want to grab your jump rings.
Jump rings will connect your acetate half-moon to your leather half-moon. To do this open your jump ring with flat nose pliers. Thread it through both the acetate half-moon AND leather half-moon to connect both pieces.
Repeat on the other earring.
STEP 6 ATTACH YOUR POSTS OR FISH HOOK
STEP 6 ATTACH YOUR FISH HOOK OR POST
For this earring, we finished it in two ways: with a fishhook or a post.
For the Fish HooK, grab your jewelry pliers!
Open up your earring hook with your jewelry pliers. I prefer the flat nose pliers to open the hook.
Thread your open hook through your acetate half-moon and clamp your hook back together again. I use both pliers to make sure my hook won’t fall out.
Repeat on the other earring.
For a post, we used E6000 glue. Be sure to read the directions on the glue. Place a small amount of glue on the post and adhere the post to the acetate earring.
Repeat on the other earring.
