HOW TO UNWELD ON A CRICUT
The bad news is that Cricut Design Space does not have an unweld feature. The good news is there is a workaround.
Create a project with words or shapes and click on the weld button.
If the result is not what you wanted, immediately click on the undo arrow.
Your project will go back to the original canvas. DO not wait to undo the project. You cannot unweld later so it is better to undo the weld immediately and began again.
The weld feature in Cricut Design Space joins shapes and letters to create a singular image. The weld tool allows you to create customized images inside Cricut Design Space by removing overlapping lines.
You can use the weld tool to create customized shapes from DIY leather earrings, gift tags, cake toppers, and so much more.
The weld tool is a great feature within Cricut Design Space to experiment with to create hundreds of customized DIY projects inside Circut Design Space.

HOW DO I PUT LETTERS TOGETHER ON MY CRICUT?
Open Cricut Design Space to a new canvas.
Open a text box and type the words you want to weld. Be sure to use a script font.
The latest Cricut Design Space update includes font kerning. Kerning is the process of adjusting space between letters in a font. You will notice Cricut Design Space included kerned fonts so be on the lookout for those available fonts.
I prefer to purchase fonts from Creative Market or Etsy. Creative Market offers 6 free goods every week so if you aren’t getting those find out more here!
Here is my favorite Etsy spot for fonts.
Zoom in on your word. You will notice my letters are not all connected.
Select your font by clicking on it and use the Letter Spacing Tool next to the font size tool.
Click on the down arrow and reduce the letter spacing.
You will notice this will move your letters closer together.
Play around with this until you find what works with the font you chose to work with.
In some cases, you may need to UNGROUP your letters.
Do you see how in the example above the letter “O” is still not attached? We need to fix that before we cut.
Select your text and select ungroup in the advanced drop-down menu.
By regrouping your letters you can adjust each individual letter.
When you are satisfied with the way your words look, select all of the letters and click on the weld tool.
If you do not do this step, the Cricut Maker will cut out each letter individually instead of cutting one fluid word.
Be sure to check to make sure the letters are welding by looking at the layers panel on the right.
You should see one word in the panel.
This means your word is welded correctly.
HOW TO WELD SHAPES IN CRICUT?
Open a new project in Cricut Design Space.
Add two shapes to the canvas you would like to weld. When you add two or more shapes to the canvas, the weld tool will become active.
Select both shapes by dragging your mouse over all the shapes you want to weld.
Click Weld in the layers panel.
Check the layers panel. The images you welded will change to the same color in the layers panel.

In a new project, click on the text in the left panel of the canvas.
Select the text tool. Type in “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” or a phrase of your choice.
Choose a thicker font. For this tutorial, I am using Announcement.
Select all on the text.
Click on ADVANCED, THEN UNGROUP LETTERS. This will allow you to move and rotate each letter individually for the cake topper.
Overlap and move the letters until you have the desired layout for the cake toppers.
Tip: make sure every letter is connected.
When all the letters are overlapped, select all and click weld.
Check the layers panel. You should have a single layer welded.
IS THERE A WAY TO UNWELD ON A CRICUT?
You can unweld on a Cricut immediately after you weld. If you keep working on a project and realize you need to unweld you cannot reverse the weld. You will need to start over or work with your design as it is.
There is not an unweld feature within Cricut Design Space. You can use the undo arrow to undo any welding immediately after you weld.
CAN YOU UNWELD IN CRICUT AFTER SAVING?
It depends. Have you saved the project, closed the project, and came back to the project to work on it?
No. You cannot unweld.
However, you can undo the work immediately after you have welded. This is the only way to unweld within Cricut Design Space.
If you have saved a project, closed it out, and come back to you the project. You will need to start the design again.

Regroup the letters until you have the look you are going for. Select all, Weld.
TROUBLESHOOTING: LETTERS TOO CLOSE TOGETHER
when you are working with letter spacing, sometimes the letters get too close together. If fix this, select all and click on Advanced settings, ungroup.
This will make each individual letter an image on your canvas. Resize each letter and peace them together and until you have the look you are going for. When you are done, select all, weld.
