HOW TO MAKE POM-POM GARLAND WITH YARN

THIS POST CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU

I was browsing Pinterest the other day and came across this beautiful pom-pom garland from Anthropologie. I knew I could make that $40 garland for under 5 bucks. If there is anything I love more than Anthropologie, it's pom-poms. I don't know why, but I am always drawn to pom-poms. It's an issue.

At any rate, I ran off to my local craft store. I had everything I needed at home for this project except for the yarn. If you don't have a crochet hook or pom-pom maker, this will cost you more than $2. However, you can make your own pom-pom maker with a piece of cardboard and you can finger knit instead of using a crochet hook!

I purchased my yarn for $4 and only used half of skein to make this entire 6 feet garland with 13 pom-poms! You could use up the whole skein and get 12 feet of garland for $4. It is a beautiful, cheap way to decorate your home!

GATHER UP ALL YOUR SUPPLIES

If you don't know how to crochet, don't panic! You can chain stitch. It's super simple. If I can do it, you can do it. Watch this video for instructions.

You can also finger knit your garland. The Nester has a great tutorial. Either way is fine and will give you a beautiful foundation for your garland.

I did this chain stitch until my foundation row was about 6 feet long. It is up to you how long you want your garland to be. I recommend anywhere from 6 to 8 feet!

When you have your chain at the length you desire, cut the yarn and knot the end.

MAKE YOUR POM-POMS

You can make pom-poms a million different ways. A quick Pinterest search will give you all the ideas, but this little tool is my favorite thing. I have the Clover Pom-Pom maker in Large. I bought mine at Joann's for $7 and used a 40% coupon. Each package comes with 2 pom-pom makers.  All About Ami has a great tutorial on how to use it.

I made 13 pom-poms for this garland.  Remember to leave a long tail for each pom-pom. You will use this long tail to tie your pom-pom to your foundation chain.

ATTACH YOUR POM-POMS TO THE CHAIN STITCH

I decided to attach my pom-poms at every 6 inches. You don't have to be exact with this. I used a simple tape measure. Lay out your pom-poms and see what works for you.

Using the long tail, double knot each pom-pom to your foundation chain. Cut the excess yarn that made your tail. It should blend in with your pom-pom.

Sit back and admire all that pom-pom goodness!! Isn't it gorgeous? Throw it up on your Christmas tree or use it to decorate a winter mantle. The sky's the limit!

If you use your pom-pom garland in your home, show us!! We'd love to know how you use yours!
