HOW TO MAKE DIY OPEN TEARDROP LEATHER EARRINGS USING A SVG/ PNG CUT FILE
STEP 1 DOWNLOAD MY SVG/ PNG CUT FILE
Download my cut file to your computer. You can get my cut files for free inside my resource library. You can get access to the resource library at the bottom of this post!
STEP 2 UPLOAD AND EDIT THE CUT FILE IN CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
Upload the SVG/PNG cut file into Cricut Design Space. If you have never uploaded a file, I wrote a tutorial about how to do that HERE.
After you have uploaded the file, your screen will look like this.
Next, you’ll need to size your earrings. Click on the teardrop shape.
In the upper middle of your screen, you’ll see “SIZE”. This is where you can make your open teardrop bigger or smaller. I recommend the following sizes:
SMALL 2” Long
Medium 2.5” Long
LARGE 3” Long
Last, you’ll want to duplicate your earrings o you have 2 earrings to cut. If you want to make multiple pairs of earrings, duplicate as many as you need!
To do this simply click on your open teardrop earring. On the upper right side of your screen click “DUPLICATE.”
You now have 2 earrings. Your design should look like this.
STEP 3 CUT YOUR LEATHER
For this tutorial, I used Genuine Cricut Leather in Brown. I used a strong grip mat and a deep cut blade. You can cut this on an Explore Air or Cricut Machine.
Cricut recommends you lay Cricut Genuine leather face down on the mat. I use a brayer to ensure the leather is stuck to the mat.
Set your Cricut Machine to Genuine Leather settings.
Cut your earrings!
STEP 4 PUNCH HOLES IN YOUR EARRINGS
My cut file designs do not include precut holes. I prefer to cut holes in my earrings using my leather punch. It gives you more control over where your holes can be, plus it’s easy! I love my leather punch.
I use the smallest setting to make my holes in my leather earrings.
You can use a ruler to make sure you punch in the center of your earring OR you can wing it as I do! You do you.
STEP 5 ATTACH YOUR EARRING HOOKS
Okay, you are almost done. Last step!
Open up your earring hook with your jewelry pliers. I prefer the flat nose pliers to open the hook.
Thread your open hook through your earring hole and clamp your hook back together. I use both pliers to make sure my hook won’t fall out.
Repeat on the other earring.
