LEARN HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE LEATHER EARRINGS ON YOUR CRICUT EXPLORE AIR OR CRICUT MAKER
I love crafting with leather. Leather has a classic timeless style. I am always dreaming up new ways to create with leather.
On a whim, my daughter and I made these earrings the other day. It was by accident. I LOVE when things work that way (I wish crafting was like that ALL the time). I was so in love with these simple, stylish, leather earrings I knew I needed to share.
I made these earrings with my trusty Cricut Explore Air. If you don't have one, DON'T WORRY. I included a little PDF at the end for you!!! Print it out and cut your earrings with scissors or an Exacto knife!
I love my Cricut Explore Air. I asked for one for Christmas last year. I didn't get it out of the box until July. Oops! What took me so long!! I love this machine!!! Seriously, put this on your wish list. It is versatile and fun!
I know it is expensive and for a frugal gal like me, it is not something I would normally splurge on. These new machines are worth it. You don't' have to worry about buying all those crazy cartridges. Everything you need is online. It is a dream! You can make so many things from leather crafts to iron-on graphics. The possibilities are endless.
**UPDATE: Many of you have asked where you can purchase leather. The leather I used for this project is from Hobby Lobby. Check out your local craft store in the leather crafting section.
Also, this Etsy shop has a huge selection!
Cricut has faux leather made for your machine. Check it out HERE.
Cricut also has its own leather in many colors. Check it out HERE.
Be sure to read through the comments of this post to get more great ideas to locate leather near you!

*** UPDATE 09/25/18**** I HAVE A NEW TUTORIAL ON HOW TO CUT LEATHER ON YOUR CRICUT WITHOUT RUINING YOUR MAT. CHECK IT OUT HERE.
Please note: you CAN cut leather directly on your mat but it leaves your mat with a residue that is super hard to clean!

STEP 1 OPEN UP CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
Log it to your Cricut account and click "FILE" and "NEWā. Your screen should look like this below.
Click "INSERT IMAGE" in the upper left hand corner.
This screen will appear. Search "TEAR DROP". Click on the first teardrop graphic. Click "INSERT IMAGE".
Your screen should look like this. On the right side of your screen, click the eye next to the teal teardrop with the cut-out. This will ensure you only make ONE CUT for each earring.
Your screen will look like this. Enlarge your earrings to the size you want. I wanted mine to be 3" long. Another option would be 2ā long or 2.5ā long.
Click DUPLICATE to make 2 earrings.
If you want to make multiple pairs at the same time, do this again until you have all the pairs you need! Click "GO" at the top of your page. Your screen will look like this.
STEP 2 CUT YOUR LEATHER EARRINGS
When cutting leather, it is important to use the right mat and the right cutting blade. I wrote about how to cut real leather here. If you are using Cricut Genuine Leather use a strong grip mat and a deep cut blade.
See how close your earrings are to the edge? It is probably fine, but I like to move mine towards the middle of the mat before I cut. Simply drag your teardrop shapes wherever you feel most comfortable.
Set your machine dial to "CUSTOM" and be sure to select the proper leather in your settings.
Click "GO".
Watch your machine GO! I love it.
Peel those babies off your mat and enjoy your work! YOU DID IT!!!
If you DON'T have a cutting machine, no worries. Download your PDF below. Print it out and cut out our earring template. Using chalk or a sharpie, trace this template ON THE BACK of your leather and CUT. Be sure to use sharp scissors or an Exacto knife if you can.
STEP 3 ATTACH EARRING HOOKS
NOW, let's make some earrings! Gather up your supplies.
Using the smallest punch, place your leather earrings into your leather punch and make a small hole near the top. Repeat with your other earring.
Using your pliers, open up your hook earrings and place your earring on the hook. Close up your earring with your pliers. You may need to use BOTH pliers. One to stabilize your earring and the other to close it!
Stand back and admire your work!!! You just made some awesome statement earrings!! These earrings are light and easy to wear. Happy Crafting!
