It all started with Pinterest. Isn't that how it always begins? Late one night I was dreaming about being a gardener. How hard can it really be? I mean I've never gardened before? A little soil and a little water and BAM plants. That has to be how it works right?
Then I came to my senses and decided to start small. A little container garden on our deck would be fabulous. I started a little backyard Pinterest board. I starting pinning and then I found the garden of my dreams. A standing herb garden. I did what any modern wife would do, I starting sending standing container garden DIY pins to my husband #bless.
We started planning and purchasing lumber. We've affectionally named him HERB. Currently he holds some basil, oregano, peppers, and sage. Isn't he the best? Here's how he came to be:
We used this template to build HERB. We used pressure treated lumber. This picture was after we made all the cuts.
The tutorial was fairly straight forward. Although if we had to do it again, we would use a Kreg jig to secure the corners. This version of HERB is a bit wobbly, but it totally gets the job done. The weight of the plants and soil make it secure enough. I have big plans to make another one for next year with more herbs and veggies. We will try it again with a Kregg jig and let you know our thoughts!
The hard part is finding the plastic utility tub to fit in the wooden garden. We looked all over our local Home Depot and came home empty handed. We finally found one at Lowe's right by the Quickrete. We drilled a few holes in the bottom for water drainage and planted our herbs.
We have loved this little container garden. What do you grow in container gardens?
