We've been making homemade granola over here for some time. We LOVE the stuff. My boys eat if for breakfast almost everymorning. It is just good, simple, cheap food!
Awhile back, my brother-in-law started talking about Chocolate Granola from Trader Joe's. He said it was his favorite thing from Traders. It got me thinking "I wonder if I could make our favorite granola chocolate?" A little experimenting later and BAM! We have a winner folks. It is crunchy, not too sweet, chocolatey and oh-so yummy. The boys fight over the last few cups left over. A batch doesn't last more than 3 or 4 days in this house. Wanna make your own? Thought so......
Chocolate Granola
makes 5 cups
5 cups old fashioned oats
1 stick butter
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup coca
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 350. Measure 5 cups of old fashioned oats in a bowl. Set aside. Heat butter, honey, and brown sugar over low heat until dissolved. Slowly stir in coca, vanilla, and salt. Pour liquid mixture over oats. Make sure all the oats are covered! Place on a cookie sheet and put in the oven for 10 minutes. Turn oven off and stir the oats. Keep cookie sheet in the oven with the door closed 4 to 6 hours or overnight. This will ensure crispy granola. Serve with milk like cereal or over yogurt. Enjoy!
